Dear pals,

I am fancy of trying different variety of parathas, roti and other Indian breads. Having a plain roti everyday would fade me up soon. So, I try something different at every other week. First time ever I tried something different but beautiful fruit Avocado in my roti dough. Oh man! What a buttery and smooth dough it was! Due to fat content, your avocado dough will be very smoother and softer than regular one. I just made it like regular roti/ phulka and I didn’t use any oil as it’s already has fat. This beautiful idea of adding Avocado in roti is inspired from here. Thank you Garam Masala! Now, this version of roti will be regular in my kitchen. We had perfected our menu with rasedar (gravy) potato and rice pudding/ kheer.

Well, I mentioned earlier in my Gujarati Daal recipe that sometimes I add a tsp of Achaar Masala in my gravy and daal. It lift up the whole taste of daal or gravy and gives a nice color to your dish. Though, it’s very strong so please use it well.

Rasedaar Potato (Potato Gravy) Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 medium Potatoes – 90% boiled and chopped in cubes
  • 1 medium Tomato
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable/ Sunflower Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds/ rai
  • A pinch of hing/ Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp Red Chili pwd – OR to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric pwd
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander pwd
  • 1 tsp Achaar Masala — optional but recommended
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup Water

How to:

1) Heat oil in pan, add mustard seeds and let it crackle. Add a hing and 1 cup water and cover the lid immediately. (Caution: Your burning chance is very high so please do it carefully as it splutter very badly due to oil and water mishmash). Add the cubed tomato.

2) When the water start to bubble up, add all the spice powders, salt and potato. Cover with lid and allow to cook and let blend all the spices with potato for few mins about 7-8 mins. Add sugar in the end. Adjust the consistency as per your choice. I make mine neither watery nor thin but medium thick. Taste the seasoning and adjust. Turn the gas off. Serve with your desired paratha or roti or simply plain rice.

I made my Avocado roti/ phulka from here.  It can be a nice pair with with puffed poori.

Enjoy! :)

A small note:

I am ending my post with special news. No…no..you are absolutely wrong here. :P :)) We are NOT extending my family but I have accepted Nupur‘s extended invitation for 7-day recipe marathon from Dec 25 to Dec 31. Yes..yes…I will be posting my recipes for 7 days nonstop. Yaay!!! Though, it’s a big challenge for me of course, but I want to welcome our ‘NEW YEAR‘ with a big bang. :) I want to post more and more recipes regularly. At least 2 recipes in a week. It’s my little attempt to clean my draft and awaiting recipes. So please readers wish me good luck! Thank you! :)

Be at peace! Ciao.

Hi Sonia ……I live the softness of the avocado roti’s. I never add any oil or butter as they are so soft by themselves. Rasedar potato is one of my favorites. I throw in a couple of peas too.

I am waiting for your marathon and the lip smacking recipes and wonderful pictures. I should thank Nupur for organizing. This is the only way I get to see Sonia’s one post a day….Yeah.
