I love them in any form. If you give me a bowl of dates I would give an empty bowl in minutes. I love its own or with plain milk or sauté with ghee. Oh yum! Winter is almost arrived here and it’s season to chew some dates and dry fruits. Today morning, I craved my all-time favourite super energy booster drink. I usually have it around 9 in morning and it sustain me till 12-1 in noon. Back at home, mom never forget to feed us dates in wintry days as they are warm for your body. Adding dates in milk can be a very nutritious snack for both kids and adults. Sauté some chopped dates with a teaspoon of ghee, it tastes = just heavenly!!

Something good to know about Dates:

  • Dates have a very low calories count; around 23 calories for a single date fruit.
  • Dates are packed with nutrition. They’re very good source of dietary fiber, protein and are rich in vitamin C, vitamin B1, B2, B3 and B5 and vitamin A1.
  • Dates are considered to be one of the best energy boosting snacks as they are power-packed with 29 grams of natural sugars such as glucose, fructose and sucrose.
  • Dates are rich in nutrients including minerals and vitamins. There are many health benefits of eating dates, as they are free from cholesterol.
  • Despite its sweetness, a couple of medjool dates only contain about 90 calories. They’re a good source of fiber and contain high levels of potassium, magnesium, copper and manganese. They do have a significant amount of fruit sugar, but this can make them a perfect alternative to other forms of dessert. (Source: Google)

Medjool dates ~ “King of Dates”

Healthy Date Shake Recipe
Prep time
Total time
I have used Medjool dates here. They are large moist dates (2 ½ times as larger than regular date we find in India) It's very moist and fruitful and extremely sweeter while the smaller dates available in India are a drier date and are less sweeter.
Recipe type: Drinks
Serves: 2
  • 3-4 Medjool or any regular dates, pitted [I always use my favourite brand Bard Valley's Natural Delights dates]
  • 3 C full cream or low-fat milk [vegan can use almond milk]
  • 2 tbsp almond meal/powder
  1. Before you eat whole raw dates, make sure to wash them properly. This is because dust easily gets stuck on the fleshy part of dates.Chop them roughly and pour warm milk over dates in deep bowl. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes so dates will be softened. Blend it nicely along with milk using hand blender or mixer. Ready to cheers!
  2. Serve warm or cold. I like it warm so I drink it immediately.

Isn’t easy and quick?
